Oh What a Year!

So it’s time to say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017!

I think it’s fair to say it has been quite a year for us with record breaking attendances at our shows and more and more venues approaching us to host their wedding fayres.

November was the icing on the cake though after coming down from the high that was a wonderful show at the Centenary Pavilion at Leeds United’s Elland Road, we then scooped a national award a day later as wedding fayre organisers of the year for the Yorkshire region.

It’s amazing to think how far we have progressed in such a relatively short space of time.

Of course none of this would have been possible without our fantastic wedding suppliers and brides and grooms who keep coming through the door in their droves.

Both Emma and myself would like to thank each and every one of you personally for your support and wish you all the best for the year ahead.

Brides set to turn out in force at York Racecourse

It’s almost that time of the year again when York Racecourse goes wedding crazy for North Yorkshire’s biggest and best wedding fayre.

On Sunday 20th March 2016, The UK Wedding Event returns to this fantastic venue for what promises to be our busiest show yet.

We have more exhibitors than ever before showcasing their services on the day, and judging by pre-booked ticket sales, more people than ever before will be attendance too.

At the time of writing this blog entry, we had sold over 1000 tickets, which is an outstanding effort, particularly when you consider it is only 150 short of our record breaking turnout for our previous wedding fayre at York Racecourse back in October.

As you would expect with a wedding fayre of this scale, there is much to see as we have pulled together the best of the best of the wedding industry to help you plan your own big day.

The UK Wedding Event

How long is your to-do list?

Greetings, Thanks once again for taking time to read The UK Wedding Event’s blog. It’s been a while since I have found a quiet moment to pen a few words of wisdom on our blog page, but at last the wait is over!

A lot has changed since our last big wedding fayre at York Racecourse in March, including the launch of our new website.

We have also hosted a brand new intimate wedding fayre at The Crown Hotel Harrogate as part of our ongoing expansion.

Generally speaking we organise larger ‘event’ type wedding fayres, but following an approach from The Crown, we agreed to offer our services to put on a show for them and what a great day it turned out to be.

The event on Sunday 12th July really was a great success, with over 250 visitors passing through the doors for one of the hotel’s biggest ever attended wedding fayre.

Of the back of such a brilliant turnout, it was therefore a no brainer to do it again, and that’s exactly what we are doing on Sunday 11th October 2015. We have even had to add another room, as all the stands were filled within weeks of being advertised and already a third date at The Crown Hotel on Valentine’s Day is well on the way to being filled up.

Admission to any of these Harrogate shows are free, with brides who pre-register for tickets, going into a prize draw for the chance to win a meal for two at the hotel or an overnight stay.

We are also counting down to our return visit to York Racecourse on Sunday 25th October for another bumper event, that is going from strength to strength with around 1000 visitors expected and up to 100 exhibitors.

And if that wasn’t enough, we have added a new date and venue to our diary, with another huge show lined-up at New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Sunday 1st November.

I must say we are super excited about this wedding fayre which will be similar in size to York Racecourse, and judging by the number of pre-booked tickets sold the feeling is shared by you too.

As I mentioned previously, we have gone live in the last few weeks with a brand new website which makes it easier than ever before to buy tickets and to sign-up for exhibition stands, with sums even being done for you!

I must admit getting to this point hasn’t been all plain sailing, with a number of technical delays to the launch and then having to get a few gremlins ironed out. Fingers crossed these problems are now behind us, but if you are planning your wedding and are starting to feel a little stressed out with all the things you still have to do, we can certainly relate. The last thing you need is a boat load of unexpected issues, that is where time management and allocating duties between the pair of you is key. You may have a to-do-list as long as your arm, and trust me with all of these extra shows, I know the feeling!

However, it’s so important to take a step back sometimes and not let trivial issues distract you from what really matters. Until my next Jerry Springer moment, take care of yourself and each other!

Racing against the clock

So the time is now 2am in the morning, and I’m sat here typing up this blog entry after getting through a list of things to do as long as my arm!

The reason I’m awake and banging away on my keyboard to talk to you is pretty obvious, The UK Wedding Event at York Racecourse is quite literally just around the corner.

You would think that with my previous experience of putting on a show of this scale, the lead-up to our big day this time would be a little less stressful.

It never works out that way though does it?! There is always something else to do, another idea to try and implement or indeed another problem to find a solution for.

Upon arrival at our wedding fayre on Sunday, brides-to-be will be greeted by a sparkling reception, their own goody bag and handed a bridal magazine with details on our exhibitors and what there is to see.

It’s a formula we have used in the past without a worry including last big October’s show in York, which attracted over 900 visitors, so naturally I thought it would be a similar experience this time. Mistake number one!

I don’t know about you, but I really do like to have control of situations, so when I’m having to rely on others, my stress levels can start to feel like they are about to go through the roof.

However, from a practical point of view, you simply can’t go through life without the support and expertise of other people as much as you might want to.

I’m going to go off at a tangent here as well, given that this is a blog about weddings and love, and link that thought process to marriage and companionship.

As we grow older and make more and more important choices, the need to share our lives with that special someone becomes a greater priority, and that is why many of you are here reading this article and hopefully planning to join us on Sunday (22nd March) at The UK Wedding Event.

Getting back on track to my original point, this last few weeks has been all about waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something to happen (Ed note – A bit like my rambling story)!

First it was the delivery to York Racecourse of our giant advertising sign promoting The UK Wedding Event. It was 10ft wide and 5ft high, so not a small banner or indeed something a courier could lose easily?! Well you best think again, as that is exactly what happened. I even had to get the sign company to reprint a new one to post out, and this time the sign reached it’s destination a day later!

Clearly at the time it was no laughing matter, but when you get a call a day later from the racecourse telling you another sign has been delivered (the original one which the couriers had lost, finally turned up), you couldn’t help but chuckle as we ended up getting two signs for the price of one!

Was that a “sign” that my luck with printers was changing? Afraid again not a chance, with just days to spare I get informed that their printer isn’t working properly on the production of the bridal magazine!

I’m pleased to say that delay hasn’t stopped us from getting the magazine ready in time for Sunday’s show, despite the worry it caused me earlier in the week.

Now you may be sat at home reading this and thinking, what has this got to do with my wedding and the fantastic exhibitors I will get to see on Sunday? And the answer is quite a bit!

It goes without saying that the lead-up to your wedding day is one to truly saviour and enjoy.

However, please bear in mind that you won’t always get what you want, whether that’s because the photographer is unavailable for the date you have selected or because the ring you love is out of your budget.

You simply can’t afford to let the pressure of planning the occasion cloud what is really worth. Be flexible, compromise and resourceful, and don’t let the stress of the experience take away from what really matters, because in the end, everything will be amazing, if you both are!

Wow, I know very profounded words from a man typing at 3am (Ed – It’s taken him a hour to write – how slow!) I think I need to rest up now, much to do!

The UK Wedding Event returns to York Racecourse

Well first let me start by apologising for the lack of updates in recent months to The UK Wedding Event blog!

The truth of the matter is that we have been so busy with one thing or another including having a baby, and I just simply haven’t had the time to write it.

On Wednesday 4th February 2015, Emma and myself were thrilled to welcome Justin Robert O’Neill into the world, and he is an absolutely smasher!

However, against the backdrop of this life changing event, we are also hard at it organising a repeat of October’s well-received wedding fayre at York Racecourse.

The response to ticket sales has again been very encouraging with 400 sold at the time of writing, and we bid to succeed the turnout for last year’s event which came in around the 900 figure.

A number of the wedding suppliers who exhibited with us on October 26th have come back for more, joined by some great new exhibitors showcasing the best the industry has to offer.

However, we do still a few spots available, particularly in the fashion sector with the opportunity to show off your own unique styles in our bespoke catwalk shows.
